The flag bearer, the pioneer, proudly carrying the weight of the enormous Carmignano legacy of quality wines for centuries, Villa di Capezzana is a true icon. Starting 1925, this super Tuscan blend in many ways had already been around for decades vowing the audience before the wine world became smitten with the super Tuscan movement.
Aged for about 2 yrs, first in French barriques and tonneaux and then in bottles, the 2013 vintage has turned out to be etheral and continues to demonstrate the strong marching to to the top of this very historic and refined estate. This is one super Tuscan that brings super joy with every Vintage with its smooth, almost velvety tannins. That it is so marvelously priced, is just a side advantage. Villa di Capezzana is the pride and joy of the Wine Monk Portfolio.
Tasting notes & Reviews
"Lovely balance to this with dark berry, hints of walnut and spice character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now or hold." 93/100, James Suckling, Oct 2017
Ripe cherry and black currant aromas and flavors are clear and fresh, shaded by tobacco, leather, earth and iron notes. Intense and firm, with a mineral- and tobacco-steeped aftertaste. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2025. 8,750 cases made. 92/100, Wine Spectator, Sep 2017
"Refined, round, lightly dusty fruit with real chew and sincerity. Long, savoury and utterly appetising. Great stuff." 17.5/20, Jancis Robinson, Jun 2017
"The 2013 Carmignano is a pretty, understated wine with lovely Sangiovese lift and brightness. Sweet dried cherry, rose petal and mint add shades of nuance to this distinctly gracious, mid-weight Carmignano. All the elements are nicely balanced. Readers should expect a laid-back style." 90/100, Antonio Galloni/Vinous Media, Apr 2018
