There are dessert
wines, and there's the Vin Santo. And there are Vin Santos and there's the Vin
Santo from Capezzana. Having been rated as the best dessert wine in the
world, to say this is an absolute star is still not doing full justice for the
praise it deserves. Capezanna started spinning the Vin Santo magic in 1925 and
has just continued to inspire, vow and please with every vintage following
that. Year after year, this gem has been a favorite at wine awards and critics
have lavished praise profusely. Antonio Galloni of Vinous media described the
2006 Vintage as drop dead gorgeous, rating it at 94/100. The 2008 Vin Santo Riserva from Capezzana won
the gold award at the 2015 Sommelier Wine Awards and another at the 2015
International Wine Challenge and a Silver at the Decanter 2015 wine Awards.
Vin Santo is a
fruit of incredible labor and love. The grapes are put to dry according to
natural methods from the moment of the vintage until the following February.
The vinification takes place in small chestnut and cherry casks. The wine is
then allowed to rest for 5 yrs in small casks and then a further 3 months in
the bottle before being released.

2008 is a deep golden yellow with a delicious nutty and sweet aroma. Filled with flavors of figs, raisin, honeycomb and hints of spices that linger for a very long finish. The sweet fruit and viscous texture perfectly paired with a sweet desert such as chocolate hazelnut or an apple crumble leaves you with such a feeling of contentment and joy that the world feels perfect from every angle.
