Our Montemaggio find was one such happening. During a chance meeting in Verona, Italy we discovered their wines and loved it so much that we moved our entire itinerary to accommodate a trip to the estate and the vineyeard.
The rolling hills of Tuscany would mesmerize anyone and the estate of Montemaggio takes those heavenly views to an altogether newer level. The owners have left no stone untruned in their quest to elevate the quality of their wines with signiicant investments in both the cellars and the vineyeards.
The riserva bottling spend about 28-36months in large barrles (32HI) and Tonneaux (5HI). The wine spends a further year in the bottle before being released to the market.
Of the recent released vintages from Chianti 2013 has been among the most outstanding with an almost perfect weather. Only about 9000 bottles of this Riserva were produced.
"Made entirely with organically farmed Sangiovese, this opens with aromas of red-skinned berry, violet and underbrush. The elegant, bright palate delivers juicy red cherry, cinnamon, star anise and aromatic herb alongside polished tannins and fresh acidity. Drink through 2029." 92/100, Kerin O'Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, Jan 2020
