As the producers describe it,
"the Charmes are considered to be the archetype of the Meursault. This appellation is the largest plot of 1er Cru in Meursault. Thierry & Family operate four plots, 70% located in Charmes Dessus. You get to discover a well-balanced Charmes with both the generosity of the Charmes Dessous and the minerality and elegance of the Charmes Dessus. Charming in appearance, it is also powerful and generous with a nice fat finish."
Charmes comes from vines with an average age of 30 years. The grapes are manually harvested and pressed on pneumatic press. The wine is aged in tank for 3 months before undergoing 15 months of ageing in oak barrels that are 1-3 years old. Only natural yeast is used and filteration as needed.
Tasting notes & reviews
"The 2011 Meursault Charmes wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and pure textural richness. The resonance and warmth of the fruit is incredibly inviting, while the creamy, expansive finish is pure Charmes. Expressive floral and spice notes add gorgeous inner perfume as the wine continues to show off its pedigree. This is a drop-dead gorgeous Meursault from Matrot, not to mention a wine of immense pleasure. The Charmes is a blend of parcels at the top of the hill (75%), mid-slope (15%) and bottom of the slope (10%)."94/100, Antonio Galloni/VinousMedia, Sep 2013
