The Wine Monk: Offering Better Wine Online at Better Prices

The Wine Monk is a specialist online wine store offering a careful selection of wines mainly from the choicest terroirs of France and Italy plus a small selection of great bottles from Spain, Australia and New Zealand.

The Wine Monk really is a fruit of labour of years of personal struggle and research in either not being able to buy the wine that we read about or finding it prohibitively (in some cases almost two to three times more) expensive when we did manage to nail it down at some speciality wine retailer.

While it is true Singapore does have some disadvantages on account of import duties levied on the alcoholic beverages and the small and diverse range of palates of the local market that partially limit the target base and economies of scale, it's still a large enough market. The more we researched the more we struggled to understand the local pricing in many cases and worse, the absence of a large swathe of quality producers and specialist regions and presence of a large number of negociant bottled wines and racks full of wines from a handful of bulk wine producers. Singapore may be small but, the palates are no less discerning, and there’s no particular reason why some of the greatest producers of fine classified Bordeaux, to value second wines, and wines from the famed villages of Meursault, Montrachet, Chablis or Vosne Romanee and the artisans crafting the greatest Barolos, Barbarescos and Brunello di Montalcino shouldn’t be here and at affordable prices that won't bust the bank.
