The flag bearer, the pioneer, proudly carrying the weight of the enormous Carmignano legacy of quality wines for centuries, Villa di Capezzana is a true icon. Starting 1925, this super Tuscan blend in many ways had already been around for decades vowing the audience before the wine world became smitten with the super Tuscan movement.
While on an average the Villa di Capezzana is aged for about 2 yrs, first in French barriques and tonneaux and then in bottles, starting 2006 vintage, the producer started keeping aside a small selection, about 500 cases, to be released on the 10th anniversary of the vintage. Those who were lucky enough to lay hands on the 2006 10th anniversary edition should look back and pat themselves on the back for being among the few to get a piece of this extremely rare wine bottles.
2011 10th anniversary bottles landed a few weeks ago early May and we thought the wines should rest a bit before these are available to order. 2011 as a vintage was a much smaller crop, so much so that the Trefinao Riserva, the high end bottle wasn't made and all that high quality fruit that was meant for the Riserva went into the Villa di Capezzana bottles. The 2011 bottle was such a hit that 2 yrs after selling out the vintage customers were still asking for it.
So it is a privilege to finally have the 2011 back albeit in an even better avatar as the 10th anniversary vintage after it has spent a further 6 yrs in the producer cellars.
It's a real privilege for us to have the opportunity to have these 10th anniversary bottles in our portfolio for our customers. It's an absolutely glorious bottle which is proudly justifying its illustrious legacy.
Below review are for the 2011 vintage, the reviews of the 2011 10th anni are still pending and we hope those, when out, should further thrill the customers.
Tasting notes & Reviews
"A very pretty and balanced Carmignano that shows refinement and beauty. Medium to full body plus currant, cherry and mineral aromas and flavors. Clean and clear finish. Drink or hold." 93/100 James Suckling, Nov 2015
"The 2011 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is round, open-knit and expressive, with plenty of depth and resonance. There is a level of purity here that is compelling. Sweet red plum, smoke, leather and tobacco flesh out on the silky, polished finish. Aging in French oak gives the Carmignano much of its supple personality. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon." 92/100, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2016
