Tasting Notes & Reviews:
"Fattoria dei Barbi is one of the historic, grandfather estates of the appellation, and this important point comes to mind every time I have the honor of reviewing their new releases. The wines always show a distinctly traditional side that is just part of this estate's DNA, and I'd like to think that this defining characteristic would not change even if a concerted effort was made to do so. Territory speaks loud in the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. The wine offers purity and deep layering with alternating tones of dried cherry, dark spice, cola and crushed flowers. Only 4,000 bottles were made." 95/100, Monica Larner, Robert Parker, Feb'2022
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a tightly constructed wine, with balanced aromas and good integration in terms of both the acidity and the tannins. These results have been smoothed over and finely polished by barrel and bottle aging over these past five years since the harvest. In fact, it's nothing but smooth sailing over the senses from start to long finish. Nothing is out of place, and I expect the tannins to further soften before this production of 4,000 bottles is released in March of 2021." 95+/100, Monica Larner, Robert Parker, Dec'2020
"The 2017 Giusto di Notri is a special 25th anniversary bottling that is chiseled, sharp and focused. The small part of Merlot gives it some added sweetness (the percentage of Merlot was slightly reduced in this vintage), the touch of Cabernet Franc contributes the power, freshness and dark fruit, and along with a starring role of Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has lots of beautiful plushness restrained by a tight, disciplined linearity. This vintage saw less time in barrique (about 16 months) but the barrels had more toasting. There is a lasting mineral note of chalk or limestone that frames the dark and opulence quality of fruit at its core. The bouquet is stunning. The wine treads lightly in the palate, with a very elegant and nuanced approach. It really is another gorgeous wine from Tua Rita that shows the profound skill of this winemaking team even when faced with a hot vintage such as this." 96/100 Monica Larner, Robert Parker, Aug'2019
"The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Piedlong is roughly 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. I tasted the final blend just two weeks prior to its scheduled bottling. Roses, dried spices, cherries and strawberries appear on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is fresh, vibrant and silky in texture, with a long finish."(The quality and consistency of the wines here largely speak for themselves. While the focus has always been on producing high-quality wines, what that means has been refined over the years, with an increasing emphasis on terroir expression and inherent elegance. Introduced in 2011, the Piedlong bottling reflects this, coming almost entirely from that lieu-dit. Unfortunately, those Grenache vines didn't fare well under the mildew onslaught in 2018, and there's no 2018 Piedlong. Such are the perils of a terroir-based approach.)" 92-94, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker, Aug'2019
