Tasting Notes & Reviews:
Brunello di Montalcino 2017, Fattoria dei Barbi
"Lightly dried fruit with citrus and cherry character. Medium body with fresh acidity and a linear and bright finish. Lively and delicious for the vintage. Drink now or hold." 93/100 James Suckling, Nov 2021
"The Fattoria dei Barbi 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is quite rich and velvety in appearance and in sensation. The wine carries extra fruit weight that is linked to the warm and dry conditions of the vintage, and that richer core is a sounding board for ripe and plummy fruit aromas. I can smell the oak barrels too, and although they don't impart obvious spice or toast, they add soft, earthy contours to this full-bodied Brunello. This ample 158,000-bottle release offers an accessible personality overall." 92/100, Monica Larner, Robert Parker, Feb 2022
Chateau Saint Pierre 2019
"A fleshy, sensual wine, the 2019 Saint-Pierre bursts from the glass with aromas of cherries, blackberries, burning embers and subtle spices. Full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, it's seamless and polished, with a sweet core of fruit, melting tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a nicely defined finish. More overtly ripe than its stablemate Gloria, Saint-Pierre must be the most gourmand, immediate wine of Saint-Julien this year, and it's already drinking well on release." 93/100, William Kelley, Robert Parker, Apr'2022
Chateau Meyney 2019
"Notes of ripe blackcurrants and blackberries, vanilla, licorice and dark chocolate with touches of earthiness and nutmeg-like spice. Medium-bodied with ripe, velvety tannins and delicious fruit. Polished and refined. Try after 2023." 94/100 James Suckling Feb 2019
"The 2016 Meyney has a very deep color. The bouquet is a stunner, delivering intense, mineral-rich black fruit pixelated to the nth degree. This is extremely focused and conveys the energy of a tightly coiled spring. The extremely well-balanced palate offers fine-grained tannins and superb acidity. Very pure and focused, with a harmonious, vibrant finish that lingers in the mouth. You can feel this lingering 45–60 seconds after the wine has exited. Wonderful. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. 2026 - 2050". 95/100 Neal Martin, Vinous, Aug 2020
Guidalberto 2020, Tenuta San Guido
“The 2020 Guidalberto is taut and tight with plenty of tart cherry and wild berry. The wine offers great freshness and tension with bay leaf, spice, wild cherry and pressed lavender buds. There is a hint of black olive too. The blend is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.” 92/100, Monica Larner, RobertParker.com, Jul’2022
"Nice freshness on the palate with plums and berries and citrusy acidity. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a powdery texture. Hints of mushrooms. You can enjoy this young, but it will age nicely, too. Drink or hold." 92/100, James Suckling, Apr'2022
