"A juicy, vibrant red with raspberry, mulberry, cherry, sage, lemon and spice-box aromas. Medium-bodied with lightly chewy tannins and fresh acidity. Crunchy and energetic. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." 92/100, James Suckling, Jul'2022
A dear customer refers it as 'BRC' and we love it!
Often when describing the Barco Reale, we talk about the analogy referencing the Mercedes A class. It was always a great car but one that has in the recent years taken on a whole new life. Ten years ago we wouldn't think it stood a chance against the might VW golf. Look at it now.
Barco Reale has gone from strength to strength in the recent years as the producers have added more finesse and care to the bottling earning high scores vintage after vintage and now consistently getting rated in the 90s vintage after vintage. It's not just an opening into the house of Capezzana but a whole lot more. A bottle you could open for your drinking pleasure on a quiet night or when friends come over.
Barco Reale di Carmignano DOC is produced with the same grapes as the DOCG (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon), plus the addition of Canaiolo. It takes its name from the Medici property whose boundaries were defined by the "wall of BarcoReale", more than 50 kms long.
Vinified in steel tanks and developed for about 12 months in allier barrels with a further 3 months in the bottle, Barco Reale is the easy drinking wine from the house of Capezzana. First introduced with the 1984 Vintage, Barco Reale is an initiation into the house wine style of Capezzana where the grapes get the same care and attention as their flagship Villa di Capezzana.
The wine is consistently rated in late 80s and early 90s by a number of famed critics across Vintages. The 2012 was rated 90pts by Antonio Galloni of Vinous. The wine is considered to go exceptionally well with Italian foods such as most Pastas and Risottos and a large number of dishes from the tandoori Indian/Mughlai style.
